Q: What is the role of the PCA3 test in the diagnostic work-up of prostate carcinoma? How can my patients benefit from the PCA3 test?
A: The PCA3 test can be of assistance in making the decision as to whether and when a prostate biopsy should be performed, particularly in patients with elevated PSA values and negative previous biopsy result(s).

Q: How is the PCA3 test performed?
A: The Progensa™ PCA3 test, offered by NovioGendix, measures the PCA3 level in first catch urine after a digital rectal examination (DRE) of the prostate. The urine sample is sent to the laboratory where it is analyzed by specially trained personnel.

The result report provides a graphical display of the individual assay results and a detailed interpretation.

The result is displayed as a so-called “PCA3 score”. If the PCA3 score is below 35 the probability that prostate cancer is found in a subsequent biopsy is significantly smaller.
